Smart contracts. On a chain built for speed.
Tenrai carries payments into blocks in milliseconds, makes them final in seconds and scales to hundreds of blocks per second. That makes it a strong home for smart contracts, so we are researching a virtual machine of our own for them. The most common building blocks are native from day one: multisig, time locks and hash locks for atomic swaps.
Research: smart contracts cannot be used yet
Smart contracts are research. The virtual machine for them is not built, and no one can deploy a contract today; everything about it can still change. Multisig, time locks and hash locks are different: they are native parts of Tenrai from release.
Why Tenrai suits smart contracts
A contract is only as good as the chain under it. Tenrai brings what contracts need most: speed, final results, room to grow and post-quantum security.
Fast
A new block every 20 ms on mainnet, every 10 ms in bursts: a contract call would reach a block about as fast as the internet carries it.
Final
Every cut is final after 2.5 to 5 seconds. A contract result never waits for confirmations, and no reorganization can undo it.
Room to grow
50 to 100 blocks per second on mainnet, and more than 225 measured on the experimental testnet, leave room for contracts next to payments.
Post-quantum
Every signature on Tenrai is post-quantum, so contracts would inherit a protection that classic chains lack.
Native from day one
The patterns people use most do not need a virtual machine. Tenrai builds them into the protocol as native lock types:
Multisig
2-of-3 and 3-of-5 addresses: funds move only when enough keys agree.
Time locks
Coins that unlock only after a set time, for vesting, savings or deadlines in an escrow.
Hash locks
Coins that unlock with a secret, the building block of atomic swaps: trade with other chains without a middleman.
Why native first?
A native lock is checked like a signature: no virtual machine to run, no gas to meter, almost no extra data. Everyday patterns stay fast and cheap, and the virtual machine is left for the logic that really needs it.
Atomic swaps with other chains
Hash locks and time locks together allow trades across chains that need no exchange in the middle: either both sides get their coins, or both get them back.
The road to smart contracts
Native locks cover the common cases from release. Once Tenrai's own virtual machine stands, everything more complex moves there.
- 1
Native locks
Multisig, time locks and hash locks, built into the protocol: fast, light and ready at release.
- 2
A virtual machine of our own
Designed for Tenrai's speed, final cuts and post-quantum signatures, with exact, metered execution that every node repeats the same way.
- 3
Complex contracts
Logic the native locks cannot express moves into contracts that run on that machine.
Built on Traidag
Smart contracts would stand on Traidag's speed and finality, and on post-quantum signatures from day one.
